I was in India in 1992, attracted by a dance called Kathakali. My first contact with it was in Paris. "La Cartoucherie" a theater run by Arianne Mnoucchskine was performing "Les Atrides", based on texts written by Aeschylus and Euripides. Here you are a sample. At the beginning, the actor is Brontis Jorodowsky, son of the famous Alejandro Jorodowsky. Do not miss the Chorus entrance (1:40). The dresses and make up are totally influenced by Kathakali dance.
Quite often we do hear about the
conflict between Indian and Pakistan over Kasmir in the news. I would
like to share this initiative by The New York Times which I find
fascinating for us learners of English: It's called Lesson of the Day
and it consists on reading a piece of news and a comprehension based on
it which in sometimes enhanced with videos, music, images, as the one I
have shared in the Trinidad and Tobago-Zimbabwe unit. It is meant to be
used in The USA schools. You will find more information below.

posted every school day. You can access to a large library of humdreds
of lessons plans related to current events. They begin with a warm up
introduction, then the article from The Times along with some questions
for writing and discussion.They also include one ot two activities if

In relation to famous Australians, we should consider a writer named Kate Morton who has written six betsellers. Her first novel The House at Riverton was one of the most successful UK debuts of all time. Kate´s books are published in 42 countries and in 34 languages.

I would like to share in this forum an event in Australian history that from my point of view should be remembered for its important implications for the new generations so that mistakes are not repeated in the future.I am referring to the problem of stolen generations that members of Aboriginal society have suffered for decades.
Every year Australia commemorates National Sorry
Day or National Day of Healing, in memory of the tens of thousands of
indigenous children who,between the 1890s and 1970s, were forcibly removed
from their homes by the state and placed in the care of white families or
institutions to assimilate them into the settler society.
Some statements by an activist in defense of the victims of this racist practice serve to understand the dimension of the problem. "If you listen to someone from the oldest group of the stolen generations and another from the younger generation, the essence of what they say is the same. They never knew their mother, they never knew their grandmother. They feel like they don't belong anywhere. They feel the same inside”.
Obviously such a tragic event in the history of Australia has had its repercussions in the cultural sphere. In the field of cinema, I would highlight the film entitled “Rabbit-Proof Fence”. The plot is based on a true event: the long epic journey of return of three girls of aboriginal origin to their families of origin from the settlement to which they had been taken to undergo a process of enculturation to be integrated into white society.
