Manchester City have launched their 2020/21 Puma third kit, which features a distinct paisley pattern and is inspired by Manchester’s cultural heritage of music and fashion.
Manchester has heavily influenced all three City shirts this season, with the home jersey’s mosaic pattern reflecting its history as a melting pot. The away kit, meanwhile, is a nod to the Castlefield area of the city and its architecture and culture.
The bespoke paisley pattern on the new third kit draws its inspiration
from the fashions that was synonymous with the ‘Britpop’ era of the
1990s, which was itself influenced by the ‘Mod’ movement of the 1960s,
when it was a staple of youth fashion.
At
least three musical bands a reknown Man City fans: The Smiths, The
Stone Rose and Oasis ( I'm sure we will see the Gallagher brothers in
the Champions' Final).
The pattern is synonymous with artists from the ‘Mod’ and the ‘Brit Pop’ eras of the 1990’s and was a staple of youth fashion in the 1960’s, influencing fashion and music culture in Manchester for generations.
"For the design we have utilised the rose and the three rivers from the club’s crest to create this unique jersey at the junction of football, music and fashion,” said David Bremond, Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Licensed at PUMA.
